A biobank is like a library, but instead of books, it stores human biological samples (such as tumors, blood, and other tissues), along with health information and medical images. Researchers use these resources to study diseases and develop new treatments and cures.

Where is Data Stored?
- Biological samples (e.g., blood, tissue, fluids) are stored securely at SickKids Hospital in liquid nitrogen freezers.
- These tanks are very cold! Their temperature is set to −196 °C
- Images and personal health data are maintained on a secure digital server
How Are Resources Shared?
Researchers and healthcare professionals can request access to biobank data and samples.
Requests are reviewed by the Material and Data Access Committee (MDAC)
The committee includes patients, researchers, and clinicians
The MDAC evaluates requests and determines the best use of data for research.
